Step 1: If you were out, write the following at the top of page 4 exactly as shown:

Step 2: On the same line on page 5 write the following exactly as shown:
Living Things and Cells

In class today, we unpacked the first standard. 
 
Step 3: You will need to get a copy of the “Unpacking My Science Standard” sheet (see me)  and tape it into your journal on page 6.

As you’ve done before when unpacking a standard, pick out the nouns and verbs from the standard. 
 
Step 4: List the nouns and verbs in the proper boxes on the handout 
 
Step 5: In the box that says, “STANDARD (Our Own Words), ” write: Plan and carry out an investigation using a microscope to give proof that living things are made of cells.”
 
Step 6: The, in the box that says “ FOUNDATIONAL KNOWLEDGE” write the following learning targets:

1. I can identify the parts of a microscope.
2. I can describe the jobs of the parts of the microscope.
3. I can use the microscope effectively to see microorganisms
4. I can explain the major characteristics of living things.
